📌 Nvidia Pushes Security Standard via DPU, Cloud Giants Absent Due to In-House Chips

Nvidia teamed up with ARM to showcase Open Agent Safety, an infrastructure security solution for Agentic AI. In this solution, the CPU is responsible for running OpenShell, while Sentry on the underlying BlueField DPU can cut off abnormal behaviors of malicious agents in real time. With this move, Nvidia aims to leverage hardware-level isolation capabilities to cement its own BlueField DPU as a foundational standard for AI server racks.

However, the initial lineup for this solution shows a noticeable gap, with AWS, Google, Meta, and OpenAI all absent. The core reason for the absence of AWS and Google lies in overlapping architecture and control: both cloud giants have long deployed their own in-house underlying infrastructure chips at scale in their racks—AWS Nitro and Google Titanium—and these in-house chips overlap heavily in functionality with Nvidia’s Sentry.

For hyperscale cloud providers, adopting Nvidia’s DPU solution would mean compromising with Nvidia on underlying data center security and rack management privileges; in addition, OpenAI’s absence is more likely due to public relations optics considerations. This indicates that AI compute competition is extending from a mere scramble for GPU performance and capacity to a tug-of-war over underlying rack governance. Against the backdrop of cloud giants fiercely defending their own hardware ecosystems, Nvidia’s pace in bundling full-rack hardware through a security framework is facing real resistance.
