📌 Anthropic Files for IPO: Compute Cash Drain Weighs on Cash and Hundred-Billion Procurement Commitments

Anthropic’s disclosed IPO filing data reveals a stark financial contrast facing frontier model developers. Although the company’s annual revenue grew 1088% year-over-year to USD 4.59 billion, its GAAP net loss reached as high as USD 41.97 billion. The core of the cash drain lies in compute costs: its compute expenses reached USD 7.3 billion, accounting for 58% of total operating expenses. Under sustained high expenditures, the company has only USD 2.03 billion in cash on its books, facing an urgent need to replenish funds.

Under cash burn pressure, Anthropic’s planned infrastructure spending has not contracted. The company plans to invest a cumulative USD 518 billion over the coming years in cloud, compute, and infrastructure, with procurement targets covering GPUs, Google TPUs, Amazon Trainium chips, as well as memory products from Micron and SK Hynix and CPUs required for agent workloads, flowing across the board into the hardware supply chain.

Hardware procurement agreements also reflect the entrenched position of upstream chipmakers. Although Anthropic has long relied on Google and Amazon’s compute chips, it still signed a procurement agreement with Nvidia, locking in AI infrastructure with a delivery scale of 2.6 GW by 2028. Competition among frontier large models is turning into the settlement of massive hardware bills, and seeking public market financing has become a key support for sustaining its costly hardware procurement and model iteration.
