📌 Lumentum Earnings Validate Demand for Optical Interconnects
Lumentum’s quarterly revenue exceeded USD 1 billion for the first time, indicating that demand for optical connections in AI data centers is no longer merely a supply-chain expectation, but is beginning to show up in revenue and profit statements. Quarterly revenue was USD 1.01 billion, and EPS was USD 3.23, both above market expectations; gross margin was 50%, also slightly above expectations. Another set of data says its revenue grew 109% year over year.
More importantly, there is guidance for the next quarter. The company expects revenue of USD 1.25 billion and EPS of USD 4.20, respectively above the market’s previous estimates of USD 1.16 billion and USD 3.63. While revenue guidance has been raised, profit guidance has improved faster, meaning that current demand growth is not being driven entirely by lower-margin orders. This is direct financial evidence that the optical interconnect cycle is still continuing.
However, current-period results and the next-stage technology roadmap should be viewed separately. If 1.6T, linear pluggable optics, and co-packaged optics (CPO) enter actual deployment, they may increase demand for lasers and optical switches. However, these incremental gains still depend on customer adoption and volume shipments and cannot be equated in advance with confirmed revenue. The focus of subsequent assessment is whether the high guidance can be delivered and whether new technologies are genuinely converted into orders.
